Marcus keeps a photo of Jeffrey in his cabin. He discusses his son with his Executive Officer Sam Kendal and says that Jeffrey jokes that he is jealous that his father is surrounded by water.
Reports circulate that the Colorado has been destroyed by Pakistani forces and the US launches a nuclear strike against Pakistan. Marcus later releases a video stating that the Colorado was attacked by another US vessel and they have taken over the island of Sainte Marina and will attack anyone who violates a 200 mile perimeter around the island.
It was later revealed by COB Joseph Prosser, while in the island's brig, that Marcus had confided in him that Jeffrey was now deceased - having been killed by friendly fire two weeks ago. Prosser, on bad terms with his friend following his actions, openly revealed this to the crew and accused Marcus of allowing Jeffrey's death to affect his judgment.
In discussions with White House Senior Advisor Amanda Straugh; named negotiator to the crew of the Colorado, Straugh pressed Marcus to surrender, and coldly stated until he did, Jeffrey's remains would remain indefinitely in a freezer in a Navy morgue, and the government would not allow him to be buried by the Marines. Sam later comforted Marcus with the promise that, when the crew got home, they would make sure Jeffrey received a proper burial - with a full military service at Arlington National.
